This is a fanlisting, a list of fans of Eric Cantona. (From TheFanlistings.org:) A fanlisting is a place for all fans of a particular show, movie, actor, actress, singer, etc. to come together and build the biggest listing of people from all around the world who are fans of that subject. Hope you enjoy your stay! Marte Eric Cantona was born in Marseille, France in May 1966. After starting his career at local French teams, he went on to play for Marseille on the top division. Later on, he was sold to Leeds United in 1991, where he helped Leeds win the Premiership in the 1991/92-season. In November-92 he was again sold, this time to Manchester United, where he went on to be one of the true legends in football. In 1993, witht the help of Eric, United ended their 26-years long wait for the Premiership to return to Old Trafford. The year after, they went another step further by winning The Double, with Eric scoring two goals on penalties in the FA Cup Final against Chelsea. The 94/95 season didn't go too well. Eric's known for his temper and in a game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in January 1995, he finally lost it, after recieving abuse from a Palace supporter. I'm sure you've heard about the kung-fu incident, which led to a 9-months ban from all football. But he came back, with a bang against Liverpool at Old Trafford in October 1995, set up a goal and scored from the penaly spot to save a point in the 2-2 game. The King was back. That season turned out to be one of his best in a United-shirt. After winning the Double, again, and beating Liverpool with a terrific goal 5 minutes from full-time, in the FA Cup final, he was voted Player of the year, both by the players and the Foootball writers that season. The next season ended as usual, United won the league, with Cantona as their captain. But by the end of the season, he decied it was time to go. An era was over. Recently he's been awarded the "Best Foreign Player of the Decade" in the Premier League, and also the Best United Player of the Century. |
